PMLEWA was started by Mr. P.Kalidhasan on 13, March, 2000 and is functioning in all districts of Tamil Nadu with respective area offices. The whole credit for his development goes to the active work put in by Mr. P.Kalidhasan. The association has been divided into 8 zones and 35 districts for the sake of administrative convenience.

The association has so far conducted 3 conferences. First conference was held at Tuticorin in April 2002. The second conference was held at Trichy in September 2003 and the third one was celebrated in a grand manner in April 2005 at Chennai. The day the association was formed i.e. March 13 is observed as Lab Technician Day.

On November 2006 a magazine by name Maruthuva Ayvaga Malar was published in Madurai by Sri. V.K. Subbhuraj, Health Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu.

PMLEWA creates a link between all technicians in a comprehensive manner. Fulfilling their information needs, introducing them to many new techniques related to medical field, keeping them of informed of the new employment opportunities, are some of the important jobs being carried out by the association. All lab technicians are advised to make use of the functions of the association and draw due benefits.
